fdm01 is a flat-pack pendant, measuring 250 x 250 mm, produced in stainless steel and polyester and is manufactured in Guandong, China and assembled and designed in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The pendant appropriates its abbreviation from “Les Fleurs du Mal” (The Flowers of Evil), a seminal collection of poems by Charles Baudelaire, first published in 1857. His reflections are particularly poignant in the context of the industrial era, subtly critiquing the dehumanizing effects of urbanization and industrialization that were transforming society and the natural landscape.

The floral body is derived from a desire to reintroduce the organic and contradictory qualities of the late 18th-century traditions of the Art Nouveau. As a revolt against a newly and heavily innovative society, the movement reflects the embracement and rejection of the industrial means available, within the realm of sensible and spiritual thinking.

By applying the architectural logic of the quatrefoil, fdm01 seeks to confront the contemporary minimalist and post-modernist tendencies by reexamining the position of organic ornamentation with tactical methods of production.
